How to use the Sign PDF

  1. Choose the PDF that needs your signature.
  2. The signature window opens. Draw your signature in the box, type your name and pick a handwriting style, or choose a picture of your signature.
  3. Press "Place signature". Drag it onto the signature line and pull a corner to make it bigger or smaller.
  4. Add the date or your name next to it with "Add text", and sign other pages the same way.
  5. Press "Download PDF" to save the signed copy.

Three ways to sign. A drawn signature is kept as smooth lines rather than a picture, so it stays crisp however large it is printed, and you can change its ink colour afterwards. A typed signature is real text in one of three handwriting fonts (Great Vibes, Dancing Script or Caveat), in black, blue or green. A picture of your signature (a photo of it on white paper, or a scan) works too: the white around the ink can be made see-through, so only the ink sits on the page, and the picture is trimmed to the signature.

Putting it in the right place. The signature appears near the bottom right of the page you are on. Drag it to the line, use the corner handles to size it, and use the arrow keys to move it one point at a time (hold Shift for ten). To sign every page, select the signature, press Ctrl+D or the copy button to duplicate it, and drag the copy to the next page's line, or place a new signature on each page.

Filling in the rest. Forms usually also ask for a date, a printed name or initials. "Add text" puts a text box wherever you click. Choose a font and size that match the form, and tick boxes can be marked with a short line or a typed ✓. Everything you add can be moved and changed until you download.

What kind of signature this is. This is an electronic signature in the everyday sense: a picture or drawing of your signature placed on the document, like signing a printout and scanning it. It is not a certificate-based digital signature that software can verify, and File Perks does not check who signed. Whether such a signature is accepted depends on the person or organisation asking for it.

Good to know

  • Protected PDFs must be unlocked first.
  • Signatures are not saved between visits: each time you sign, you draw, type or choose it again.
  • This is a visible signature, not a certificate-based digital signature.
  • A picture of a signature works best as a clear photo or scan on plain white paper.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sign with my finger on a phone?

Yes. The drawing box follows a finger, a stylus or a mouse. Turn the phone sideways for a wider box.

Is my signature stored anywhere?

No. It exists only in this browser tab while you work and is gone when you close it. Nothing is uploaded.

Can I change the colour of my signature?

Drawn and typed signatures can be black, blue or green when you make them, and their colour can be changed afterwards from the colour swatches. A picture keeps its own colours.

Is this a legally valid signature?

File Perks cannot say: it depends on the document and on who asks for it. Many offices accept a signed PDF like this, the same as a signed and scanned page, but some require a certified digital signature.
