How to use the Background Color Changer
- Add an image with a plain, single-colour background, or a PNG with a transparent background.
- Keep "Edge colour" to change the colour around the edges of the image, or click the picture to pick the background colour yourself.
- Choose the new colour, or tick "Transparent". Set the tolerance: higher also catches shadows and slight shading.
- Press "Change background", compare before and after, and download.
This tool changes colours, it does not use AI. It works best on product photos, logos, signatures, scans and portraits shot on a plain backdrop. A busy photo background (a room, a street) cannot be separated this way.
"Connected to the edges" changes only the background area that touches the image border, so the same colour inside the subject (white shirt on a white wall) is kept when the subject separates them. "Everywhere" changes every matching pixel.

Good to know
- Works on plain or nearly plain backgrounds; it does not detect people or objects.
- Edges are not feathered: a soft or blurry outline may keep a thin rim of the old colour. Try a slightly higher tolerance.
- Choose PNG or WebP to keep a transparent background; JPG fills it with white.

Frequently asked questions
Can it remove the background of any photo?
No. It replaces one plain colour. For photos with a detailed background you need an AI background remover; File Perks does not upload images to one.
What does tolerance do?
It sets how different a pixel may be from the background colour and still be replaced. Low values change only the exact colour; higher values also take in shadows, noise and JPG artefacts.
How do I make a background transparent?
Tick "Transparent" and save as PNG or WebP. The changed pixels become see-through.
