PNG to WebP Converter

WebP files are often much smaller than PNG, and they keep transparency. That makes WebP a good choice for images on a website.

How to use the PNG to WebP

  1. Add one or more PNG files.
  2. Set the WebP quality. At 100% the files are larger but sharper; around 80% they are much smaller.
  3. Press "Convert" and compare the sizes shown for each file.
  4. Download the WebP files.

Every current browser can show WebP images. Making them needs browser support too: Chrome, Edge and Firefox create WebP files, while some Safari versions cannot. If yours cannot, File Perks tells you instead of giving you a PNG with a .webp name.

Good to know

  • Your browser must be able to create WebP files. File Perks checks this and says so if it cannot.
  • Quality controls lossy WebP. Small, flat graphics sometimes come out larger. Both sizes are shown, so you can keep the smaller one.

Your files are processed on your own device. They are not uploaded to File Perks or anyone else. Read the Privacy Policy.

Frequently asked questions

Does WebP keep transparency?

Yes. Transparent and semi-transparent pixels stay transparent in the WebP file.

Why does it say my browser cannot create WebP?

Some browsers, including some versions of Safari, can show WebP images but cannot create them. Open this page in Chrome, Edge or Firefox to convert.

Can every website use WebP?

All current major browsers display WebP. Some older software and a few upload forms still accept only JPG or PNG.
