How to use the GIF to JPG

  1. Add one or more GIF files.
  2. Set the JPG quality and the background colour for transparent parts.
  3. Press "Convert" and download the JPG files.

GIF and JPG are made for different things. GIF holds at most 256 colours per frame and can be animated; JPG holds millions of colours, cannot move and has no transparency. Converting a GIF photo or graphic to JPG makes it acceptable to almost anything that asks for a picture: identity forms, online profiles, office documents.

Animated GIFs. A JPG is a single still picture, so an animated GIF gives its first frame. If you need a different moment of the animation, open the GIF in an image viewer, save that frame, and convert the saved picture.

Transparency. Many GIF logos and stickers have a see-through background. JPG cannot keep it, so those areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white unless you change it). To keep the transparency, convert to PNG with the Image Converter instead.

A worked example. A school's old website offers its crest as crest.gif on a transparent background, and a certificate template needs a JPG. Choose white as the background, leave the quality at 85% and press Convert to get crest.jpg.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep my GIF moving?

No: JPG has no animation. Keep the GIF where it is accepted, or use its first frame as a still picture.

Why does my JPG look the same, not sharper?

The GIF's colours and detail are kept as they are; the JPG simply stores them in a format more places accept.

Can I convert several GIFs at once?

Yes, up to 100 at a time, and download them together as a ZIP.
