Excel to PDF

Make a printable PDF from an Excel workbook or a CSV file: each sheet becomes a table that runs over as many pages as it needs, with its header row repeated on every page.

  • Nothing uploaded

How to use the Excel to PDF

  1. Choose an Excel workbook (.xlsx) or a CSV file.
  2. Each visible sheet is laid out as a table and opens in the editor.
  3. Check the pages; add a title, a note or a logo if you like.
  4. Press "Download PDF".

How the table is made. The first row of each sheet is treated as its header: it is printed in bold on a shaded band and repeated at the top of every page the table runs onto. Empty rows and columns around the data are left out. Column widths follow the widths set in the workbook, or the length of the longest entry in each column. A sheet with more than seven columns goes on landscape pages, and the text gets smaller as columns are added (down to 7 points for very wide sheets), so the whole width fits.

Values as you see them. Numbers are printed without the long tails of decimals a computer stores, dates appear as day/month/year, and TRUE or FALSE as words. Formulas show the result Excel last saved with the file. Hidden sheets are left out; when a workbook has more than one sheet, each starts on a new page under its own name.

CSV files. Comma, semicolon, tab and bar separators are recognised from the first line, and quoted entries may contain commas, quotes and line breaks. A CSV exported from a bank or a shop system usually opens as it is.

What is not kept. Cell colours, borders, merged cells, charts, pictures, comments and conditional formatting are not carried over: the PDF is a clean table of the values. Each sheet is read up to its first 2,000 rows and 50 columns; anything beyond is left out, and the page says so.

Frequently asked questions

Can I choose which sheet to convert?

Every visible sheet is converted, each from a new page. To leave a sheet out, delete its pages in the page list before downloading.

Why are my dates shown as day/month/year?

Dates are written in the day/month/year order used in most of the world, whatever their style in the workbook.

My table is too wide. What can I do?

Wide sheets are put on landscape pages with smaller text. To keep it readable, hide or delete columns you do not need in the workbook first, or split the sheet in two.

Is my spreadsheet uploaded?

No. It is read and laid out in your browser and never leaves your device.
