AVIF to JPG Converter

Turn AVIF images, the newer format many websites now serve, into JPG files that every app, editor, printer and upload form can open.

  • No sign-up
  • Nothing uploaded

How to use the AVIF to JPG

  1. Add one or more AVIF files.
  2. Set the JPG quality, and the background colour for any transparent parts.
  3. Press "Convert" and download the JPG files.

Why convert AVIF. AVIF compresses pictures very well, so websites use it to load faster. But a picture saved from such a site often will not open in older photo viewers, office programs or upload forms, which still expect JPG. Converting gives you a JPG with the same width and height that opens everywhere.

Your browser does the decoding. File Perks uses the AVIF support built into current browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari 16.4 or later). On an older browser that cannot read AVIF, the page says the file cannot be opened rather than producing a broken picture; update the browser or use another one.

Size and quality. AVIF usually reaches the same look in fewer bytes than JPG, so the JPG can come out larger than the AVIF: the result card shows both sizes. Use 85% for photos, 90–95% for pictures with text, and the Image Compressor if a form sets a size limit.

A worked example. A product photo saved from a shop's website is bag.avif, and the marketplace where you want to list it accepts JPG or PNG. Press Convert with the default settings to get bag.jpg.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the JPG larger than my AVIF?

AVIF compresses better than JPG. Lower the quality a little if the size matters, or keep the AVIF where it is accepted.

Does it keep HDR or wide colour?

No. The picture is converted to ordinary colours, which is what JPG and most screens and printers use.

Can I convert many AVIF files at once?

Yes, up to 100 at a time, and download them together as a ZIP.
